on separation

We know separation so well because we’ve tasted the union. The reed flute makes music because it has already experienced changing mud and rain and light into sugarcane. Longing becomes more poignant if in the distance you can’t tell whether your friend is going away or coming back. The pushing away pulls you in.

  1. Thank you for this lovely quote and for reminding me of Rumi! This post triggered a response by me here: http://leretourin3parts.blogspot.com/2010/07/on-taking-risks.html
(more about we’re I’m at rather than a reflection of your Rumi quote here)

They say “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” I hope you don’t mind that used your post as a model for my post ;)
